WhatsApp opens events to folks without the app
Shareable invites and a new hub let you plan parties that reach beyond your WhatsApp circle.
TL;DR
- WhatsApp now lets users invite non-app guests via link or QR code.
- A new Events hub in Settings handles RSVPs, reminders, and past plans.
- Phone numbers stay hidden and addresses show only after RSVP.
WhatsApp is rolling out an Events feature that lets you invite people who don’t even use the app. Create an event, grab the link or QR code, and send it by text or email. Guests can check details and RSVP without downloading anything.
The new Events section sits in Settings. There you’ll see every past and upcoming plan, manage RSVPs, fire off custom reminders, and let people bring a plus-one. You can also drop a cover photo on the invite.
Privacy tweaks are built in. Your phone number stays hidden from guests you don’t know. People without WhatsApp won’t see the actual address until they RSVP.
Before this, you could only spin up events inside chats. Now there’s a proper hub that works like a lightweight event planner. It’s clearly aimed at services like Partiful that already let hosts reach anyone.
The Tea
WhatsApp keeps widening the door without forcing everyone inside. By letting non-users join events, it turns the app into a quiet rival for party planning while keeping your number private. Holiday invites just got a lot less app-dependent.
