Instagram Edits Video Editor Now on Mac
Instagram's free video editor expands to Mac with multi-track tools, color grading and 4K exports.
TL;DR
- Edits for Mac adds multi-track timeline, keyframes and audio waveforms.
- Free features include licensed music, effects and unlimited auto captions.
- 4K watermark-free exports and direct Instagram publishing are supported.
Instagram has rolled out its Edits video editor to the Mac. The desktop version targets bigger projects that need more screen space and mouse-and-keyboard control.
Users get a full multi-track timeline, keyframes for transitions, and audio waveforms for precise cuts. Basic moves like splitting and trimming feel smoother, while color wheels, curves, and log tools help finish the look.
The app keeps the free perks from the phone version: licensed music, sound and video effects, plus unlimited auto captions in multiple languages. Creators can import their own LUTs and fonts, and keyboard shortcuts are customizable.
Finished videos export in 4K without watermarks and support both horizontal and vertical ratios. Direct publishing to Instagram is built in, with options to tag, add locations, or try reels.
Meta says Edits already has more than 50 million active users. The company is still building cross-device project syncing, though saved audio and text styles from mobile already appear on the Mac app.
The Tea
Creators who outgrow phone editing now have a free step up that stays tied to Instagram. It keeps pressure on rivals like CapCut while giving Meta another way to lock people into its ecosystem.
