Claude Now Links Bank Accounts for Finance Chats
Anthropic's new Personal Finance tool lets Claude read your spending via Plaid, but keeps everything read-only.
TL;DR
- Anthropic added Personal Finance to Claude for US paid users.
- Links via Plaid for read-only access to transactions and balances.
- Compares to OpenAI’s ChatGPT tool but skips ads and training use.
Anthropic just added a Personal Finance feature to Claude. Paid users in the US can now link bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and ask the chatbot about their money in plain language.
The tool is strictly read-only. It cannot move funds, manage accounts, or invest anything. Anthropic stresses it is not built for investment advice and that Claude can still make mistakes, so users should double-check key numbers with their bank.
What it can actually do
Once connected, Claude pulls up to two years of transactions plus balances and account details. You can ask where your money went last month or whether spending looks higher than usual. It sorts expenses into categories, spots duplicate charges or rising bills, and explains terms such as APR.
- Generates spending charts, calendars, and budget breakdowns
- Flags unexpected fees or steadily increasing costs
- Answers follow-up questions without ads or sponsored product pushes
Conversations inside the Personal Finance hub are not used to train models. The feature rolls out in beta this week to Pro, Max, and Ultra subscribers.
How it stacks up
OpenAI added a similar finance tool to ChatGPT back in May. Anthropic highlights that its version avoids ads and keeps Personal Finance chats separate from training data by default.
The company says it is exploring ways for Claude to work with licensed financial pros later, but nothing like that is live yet.

The Tea
AI chatbots are moving from generic money tips to actually seeing your real transactions. The privacy stakes just got higher, and how people trust these tools with their bank data will shape the next wave of AI assistants.
