TikTok Drops Standalone Shop App in Asia, Not US
TikTok launches a standalone shopping app in Asia, with no word yet on a US release.
TL;DR
- TikTok released a dedicated Shop app on iOS and Android in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.
- The app offers personalized picks, livestream shopping, app-only deals and order tracking.
- No launch plans announced for the US, where TikTok operates as a separate company.
TikTok just released a dedicated Shop app on iOS and Android. It’s live now in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines, but not in the US or UK.
The app is a streamlined version of the shopping tools already in TikTok. Users get personalized picks, can buy straight from livestreams and short videos, and score app-only deals like free shipping. It also offers easy order tracking and secure checkout.
Social media consultant Matt Navarra first spotted the listing. The move shows TikTok wants to compete more directly with e-commerce players instead of keeping shopping inside the main feed.
There’s still no word on when, or if, the app will reach the States. The US version of TikTok runs as a separate company, which adds uncertainty. While the American side keeps adding features like voice comments and travel booking, the standalone Shop app stays off the menu for now.
The Tea
TikTok is clearly serious about turning scrolling into spending. A separate app makes that push cleaner, but the US delay shows how tricky global expansion can get when rules and corporate structures differ.
