Airbnb’s AI Travel Agent Launches in 2027
Airbnb is building a custom AI travel agent for planning and booking trips, set for first half of 2027.
TL;DR
- Airbnb confirmed AI travel agent launch in first half of 2027
- Agent uses custom interface with maps, photos, itineraries instead of chat
- Will assist during trips with changes, refunds and safety support
Airbnb confirmed it’s building an AI travel agent to help users plan and book trips. The feature is slated for the first half of 2027, according to the company’s Q3 shareholder letter.
The tool is described as AI-native and built specifically for travel. Instead of a basic chat window, it pulls from a library of hundreds of travel elements like maps, photos, comparisons, calendars, and itineraries. These get composed in real time around whatever question a user asks.
CEO Brian Chesky noted that planning a trip feels different from routine tasks. He said people enjoy researching, looking at photos, comparing homes, and deciding with their group. The agent is meant to support that process while also letting users book directly on the platform.
Beyond booking, the agent will stick around during the trip. It can handle reservation changes, payment issues, refunds, rebooking, and 24-hour safety support. Airbnb says its nearly 20 years of matching hosts and guests gives it an edge here that outside agents lack.
The company also called AI the best thing to ever happen to it, noting it has already changed how products get built and how the business runs. The announcement came alongside solid Q3 numbers, with revenue hitting $4.87 billion, up 19 percent, and a raised growth forecast for 2026.
The Tea
Travel planning is about to get way more visual and personal. Airbnb is betting its own data and interface tricks will beat generic AI agents at the game everyone sees coming next.
