- Duffer brothers and Shawn Levy executive produce; fourth franchise project.
Netflix is keeping the Stranger Things world alive with a new live-action prequel series titled Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure.
The show is set in 1955 in the fictional town of Marion, Nevada. A teaser shows a bicycle left near a restricted area, a distant military base or town, thunder, and a mysterious opening in the sky, with the song Sh-Boom playing on a radio.
It will stream in 2028. The Duffer brothers and Kate Trefry co-created the series. Trefry, a longtime Stranger Things writer who also penned the stage play The First Shadow, serves as showrunner. Joe Wright directs the first three episodes.
The announcement landed on Stranger Things Day, November 6. This marks the fourth project in the franchise after the original series that ended in 2025, the animated Tales From ’85, and the stage play.
Who’s involved
The Duffers are executive producing. Shawn Levy of 21 Laps is also on board as executive producer. Filming takes place in New Mexico.
The Duffers said the series is “Stranger Things, but also thrillingly fresh, with a new setting, new heroes and villains, and new… actually, we’re not allowed to say any more.”
The Tea
Netflix clearly wants to stretch its biggest hit beyond the original run. A live-action prequel with fresh characters and a new era shows they’re betting big on keeping the upside-down universe going for years.
